The first photo shows after the adjustment of the screws. The second photo shows the clashing clamps which prevented a good and proper grip of the can.

The first problem, which we solved by drilling.

Improvisation

On the day of the challenge, we had assembled the car and realised some problems on it. Firstly the gear was not exactly flat and the arm could not stick properly on it. Also, when the moving arm came to a close, it clashed with the stationary arm, therefore making it unable to carry the can properly. (Pictures will be up soon.) Here is how we tackled the problems:

1) Since the arm could not be glues we drilled holes into the gears and screwed it in withe the arm. This is what led us to our second problem of the arms clashing with each other in the closed position.

2) Since the arms were clashing, on the mechanism plate, we carefully tightened some screws and loosened some screws. Therefore, making one arm slightly higher than the other without compromising on the power of the grip or risking and arm falling off. At the end, nothing went wrong and everything had gone according to plan.

VIDEO FOR CAN CAN CHALLENGE! 17 CANS!

we are very happy with the total cans we achieved during the can can challenge! we surpassed our expectations , we had to do many last minute changes to enable to whole machine to work! Like what we learn from the talk which was given by the NUS guy days ago, when something goes wrong with the project, we have to compromise. We have to decide which part is easier to change and get on with it. We finally found a idea to solve to problem posed to us! let me show u the video during the can can challenge!

Plan B

Here is a brief description of our new plan. Instead of two moving arms, there will only be one moving arms and one stationary arm.(refer to the picture above). Fabrication and programming will begin this week.

Change of Plans

We are not going with the Plan A in the previous post. We modified the plan so there is only one moving arm. We will post up pictures of our plan once they are completed.

Plan A

This is our Plan A for the Can-Can challenge. Please click to enlarge the photo. There is one servo motor, that would be connected to a 16-teeth gear. This gear would be connected to two bigger gears. The motor is the one that would open and close the clamps As you can see from the picture, there is also a rubber strip at the part where the can is supposed to be gripped. This is to increase friction so that the can does not slip away.

Btw, we could find a way to make the images clearer, so we would gladly show it to you on Thursday.
